Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

The Verda Chrome Extension ("the Extension") allows users to verify whether images and videos on the web contain a Verda watermark. This policy describes what data the Extension collects, how it is used, and your rights.

When you sign in with Google

• Google account information. If you choose to sign in, the Extension receives your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. This information is sent to Verda's servers to authenticate you and is stored locally in your browser to maintain your session. You can use the Extension without signing in.
• Authentication token. A session token is stored locally in your browser and sent with verification requests to identify your account. The token is cleared when you sign out.

When you verify content

When you explicitly right-click an image, click "Verify" on media, or paste a URL, the Extension:

• Sends the image or video to Verda servers for watermark verification. The Extension downloads the media in your browser and uploads it to Verda's secure servers (Amazon S3) for processing. The uploaded file is used solely for verification and is automatically deleted within 24 hours.
• Caches verification results locally in your browser's storage. This cache stores the verification status, creator name, and posting date for up to 24 hours. This data never leaves your browser.
• Tracks daily verification count locally to enforce usage limits for anonymous users. This count resets daily and is stored only in your browser.
• Associates verifications with your account if you are signed in. This allows us to display your verification history and, in the future, notify creators when their content is verified.

• No browsing history. The Extension does not monitor, record, or transmit your browsing activity.
• No passive scanning. The Extension never scans images or videos unless you explicitly initiate a verification.
• No analytics or tracking. The Extension does not include any analytics, telemetry, or tracking code.
• No cookies. The Extension does not set or read cookies.
• No data from Google beyond basic profile. We only receive your name, email, and profile picture. We do not access your contacts, files, or any other Google data.

• Image and video data sent for verification is processed by Verda's watermark decoding service and is not stored beyond the verification session (automatically deleted within 24 hours).
• Verification results are used solely to display creator information to you.
• Google account information is used solely for authentication and displaying your profile within the Extension.
• If signed in, your verification activity may be counted to provide creator analytics (e.g., "your content was verified X times"). No personal information about who verified is shared with creators.
• No data is sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.

The Extension requests the following permissions:

• contextMenus — To add "Verify with Verda" to the right-click menu on images and videos.
• activeTab — To access the current tab when you initiate a verification.
• storage — To cache verification results, authentication state, and preferences locally in your browser.
• identity — To enable Google Sign-In via Chrome's built-in authentication flow.
• Host permissions (all URLs) — To inject the verification badge overlay and video verify button on any webpage. The Extension only activates when you interact with it.

• Server-side: Uploaded media files are automatically deleted within 24 hours.
• Client-side: Cached verification results expire after 24 hours. Authentication state persists until you sign out. You can clear all Extension data at any time via Chrome's extension settings.

• You can sign out at any time from the Extension's "You" tab to remove your authentication data.
• You can clear all locally stored data by going to chrome://extensions, finding Verda, and clicking "Clear data."
• You can uninstall the Extension at any time to remove all local data.
